INGREDIENTS:
Doxycycline hyclate: 500 mg
Excipients to 1 g
CHARACTERISTICS:
– A tetracycline antibiotic: Doxycycline works by reversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacterial ribosomes. This interference with the formation of the ribosomal complex between tRNA and mRNA prevents the elongation of the peptide chain, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and quickly inhibiting bacterial growth and reproduction.
– Doxycycline is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and shows cross-resistance with oxytetracycline.
– Rapid absorption, minimally affected by food, high bioavailability, strong tissue penetration, wide distribution, and a long duration of drug concentration in the blood.
INDICATIONS:
For the treatment of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by bacteria sensitive to doxycycline, such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia, Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Rickettsia, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus spp., in calves, kids, goats, poultry, sheep, and pigs.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
To be mixed in drinking water or feed:
– Pigs and chickens: 10 mg – 20 mg Doxycycline hyclate/kg body weight/day for 3 – 4 days (equivalent to 100 g – 200 g/1000 liters of water).
– Water requirement:
+ Pigs: ±100 ml/kg body weight.
+ Chickens: ±200 ml/kg body weight.
– Calves, kids, goats, and sheep: 1 g/100 kg body weight, twice daily, for 3 – 5 days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
1) Not to be administered to laying hens.
2) Avoid use with high-calcium diets.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:
– Calves, kids, goats, and sheep: 14 days.
– Pigs: 5 days.
– Poultry: 5 days for 1 g/100 kg body weight and 13 days for 2 g/100 kg body weight.
STORAGE:
Protect from light, seal well, and store in a cool, dark place.
